Why do some of our multi-day tours include travel insurance?
Specialized “third-party” travel insurance covers various illness or accident-caused cancellation charges and many other risks. We have had years of personal experience with thousands of travelers covered by Travel Guard, Premier & Collette, and we feel confident in how well they take care of our travelers during their times of difficulty.
We particularly recommend buying insurance to cover cancellation and interruption fees. Insurance covers accidents or sickness (yours, a family member's, or a traveling companion's) resulting in cancellation or trip interruption charges. If roommates cancel, their refund cannot be reduced to cover your single supplement; that’s why each roommate should have travel insurance to reimburse for this extra cost.
Note that Medicare does not cover you outside the U.S.
Travel insurance does. Likewise, “free” credit cards, vendor-offered, and membership plans have significant gaps and limitations.
These are just a few reasons we include travel insurance on many multi-day tours. The plans cover even more than this.
This isn’t just our opinion. Forbes Advisor named Travel Guard the 2020 Best Travel Insurance provider! Of 15 companies ranked by the financial news outlet, Travel Guard came in first, based on a rigorous, data-driven methodology.

Many of our multi-day tours for US residents include a Travel Guard group plan; however, for Premier World Discovery and Collette Vacations, these plans are optional.
For 1-day trips, insurance is not included. A personal plan will be available soon from Berkshire Hathaway.
For non-US residents, consider visiting https://www.worldnomads.com as an alternative. (We do not sell or recommend it per se.)
